This was my first time providing The Savoy Cinema Wedding Photography at Heaton Moor in Stockport, in fact it was The Savoy’s first time as well. This was their very first wedding and even though they don’t have a marriage license just yet (I’m sure they will soon though) the cinema made for the perfect wedding reception venue.
Jocelyn & Rob had booked me earlier in the year and we met up in Stockport town centre for their pre wedding shoot a few weeks earlier. You can see the results of that here. The wedding ceremony itself took place in Hayfield in Derbyshire and was conducted by their friend who happens to be a vicar, very handy and that’s where my day started. The village of Hayfield is gorgeous and in the centre of the village is St Matthew’s church. As I wandered inside I was met my a familiar face, Jocelyn’s mum Margaret who I used to work with in a previous life.
Hayfield Church Wedding at St Matthew’s
Jocelyn left Rob waiting quite a few minutes before the wedding car pulled up, but that is a Bride’s prerogative after all. After the ceremony we took a few group photos on the steps of the church, the sun was out and then we took a short stroll around the village for a few more photos before ending up at the Royal Hotel where close family friends were treated to the wedding breakfast.
Art Deco Cinema Wedding Photography
After the wedding breakfast, everybody made their way to leafy Heaton Moor in Stockport and to the Savoy Cinema. I’d been waiting for this wedding for a while as I love this type of venue but being a Heaton’s lad myself I had very fond memories of The Savoy. It’s going back a while now but my mum took me to see E.T. there as a small boy. It’s still one of my favourite films and The Savoy is still one of my favourite cinemas. As this was the first wedding they had hosted we didn’t know what to expect but it was a triumph. Think of it as a sort of mini Plaza in Stockport and that is a huge compliment as The Plaza is one of my favourite wedding venues in the North West. The walls of the cinema inside and out had been adorned by huge film posters, all featuring Jocelyn, Rob and their two girls.
Match of the Day Wedding Messages
After a short film, again featuring the fab four, Jocelyn & Rob entered the cinema under a huge explosion of cinema ticket confetti, the staff had been collecting the tickets for weeks. The speeches followed and you may have guessed they weren’t any old speeches. It’s not often I get celebrities to photograph but this wedding had them by the bucketful. Both Joceyln & Rob work on Match of the Day at the BBC in Media City and know the presenters very well. Gary Linekar, Ian Wright and Jermaine Jenas all made special appearances on the cinema screen with some very funny messages. Also popping up on the big screen were athletic legends Denise Lewis and Michael Johnson both giving personal messages to the couple.
As if all of this wasn’t enough, then came the first dance. Just in front of the screen with all the guests watching on from the cinema seats, perfect. It was at that point that it was my cue to leave but not before being treated a gorgeous pizza by I Knead Pizza who set up stall just outside the cinema.
What a couple, what a family. To everyone there, thank you. It was a day to remember for sure.
