As a Yorkshire Wedding Photographer I’m situated near Manchester which means I’m also very close to the Pennines, just a short drive over Snake Pass and into Yorkshire and all it has to offer for some beautiful Yorkshire wedding photography.
Here’s a little bit of wedding inspiration in the way of some Yorkshire wedding venues, some I have photographed at in the past and others I’d just love to photograph your wedding at. These recommendations are what I consider to be the crème de la crème of Yorkshire wedding venues. Whether it’s indoor, outdoor, tipis or country houses, this guide has it all to planning your wedding Yorkshire. Yorkshire folk built their fair share of castles and stately houses and as you can imagine these make absolutely fantastic backdrops for your wedding photos. Here’s my list if the best around
Cannon Hall stunning Grade ll listed Georgian country house. Hazelwood castle is set in 77 acres of woodland and landscaped gardens. Allerton Castle describes itself as a fairytale wedding venue and when you say see it, it’s hard not to agree. Fixby Hall has a terrace area, ideal for you and your guests to soak up the rays.. Carlton Towers is 17th century hidden gem. Set in 250 acres of parkland. Wortley Hall is an historical building with 26 acres of landscaped gardens and grounds. Wentworth Woodhouse offers five beautiful licensed rooms for civil ceremonies.
If the above are just a little too grand for you but you still want a little bit of class, the following venues could be the one. Elsecar Heritage is a unique setting with a rich industrial heritage. Rise Hall was rescued from the brink of dereliction by Channel 4 property expert, Sarah Beeny. Oakwell Hall and Country Park is a stunning restored 19th Century barn. Grays Court in York allows exclusive use of the house and gardens for a full day or weekend. Kelham Island Museum is a stunning venue for your wedding reception. York Hospitium is a two-storey listed building set within the beautiful York Museum Gardens. The Medieval rooms and garden setting are beautiful and atmospheric. Thwaites Mill is nestled on an island location between the River Aire and the Aire & Calder Navigation. The Arches at Dean Clough is full of inspiring romantic, traditional and industrial features such as red brick vaulted ceilings and Yorkshire Stone flooring. Newburgh Priory is nestled near the village of Coxwold, on the edge of the Howardian Hills.
Blossom Barn is a 17th Century barn in a gorgeous rural location in Hepworth, Holmfirth. There’s also an open field for a marquee, tipi or yurt allowing for up to 150 guests. Northorpe Hall All profits from weddings and events here are donated to the charity, helping to fund their work improving the mental health and emotional well-being of Kirklees young people. What a fantastic idea. Sandburn Hall has a spectacular oak framed Grand Function Hall with stunning views across the golf course, fountain and lakes provides a truly romantic setting. Craven Arms and Crook Barn are very atmospheric & makes for a memorable venue for your wedding. Your guests will have access to some of the best real ales in the area in the Craven Arms bar. York Maze is Set in open countryside close to the city centre, York Maze is a fantastic rural venue, perfect for the less formal wedding or reception. Wood Lane Countryside Centre is a Grade ll listed former farm set on the edge of countryside in north-west Sheffield, a perfect venue for your rustic Yorkshire wedding. Priory Cottages is suitable for small and intimate events which are held in the Barn area (up to 60 day guests) or for larger wedding (up to 150) in the marquee. Hornington Manor is a Grade II listed Manor house built in 1770 which has been lovingly restored to provide luxury self-catering accommodation and is now the perfect setting for your dream wedding in Yorkshire.
Rudding Park I set in 300 acres of landscaped gardens and woodland, It iss one of the most beautiful hotels in Harrogate. Wentbridge House, fancy an outdoor wedding? The Garden Folly is ideal for both small, intimate and larger ceremonies with seating available for up to 130 guests. Wood Hall Hotel & Spa is a magnificent Yorkshire country house set in stunning grounds and gardens for the fairytale country house wedding.
Crowhill Cottages offers character, history and beauty. Holdsworth House was shortlisted for Best Historic Venue in the national Wedding Awards 2018. Devonshire Fell is one of the most stylish wedding venues in North Yorkshire. Whitley Hall Hotel is a 16th century ivy-clad mansion. I’m quite a regualr here photographing Yorkshire weddings. Take a look at this Whitley Hall Hotel wedding. Whirlowbrook Hall stands in 39 acres of stunning landscaped gardens of the Whirlowbrook Park on the Yorkshire and Derbyshire borders. The Mansion offers stunning views overs 700 acres of parkland, woods & lakes which comprise Roundhay Park and is a perfect for a Yorkshire Wedding Photographer.
Perfect for those less informal, relaxed weddings. Cheerful Chilli is all about fresh and flavourful vegetarian and vegan food to get your taste buds going. Red Lion is a 16th century Ferryman’s inn, Crab & Lobster In a little corner of God’s own country in North Yorkshire it offers acres of beautifully landscaped gardens, fountains and terraces for that intimate Yorkshire Dales wedding. The Angel, Hetton is another venue deep in the Yorkshire Dales.
Sheffield has it’s fair share of cool bars and venues – we love the look of these for a start. 99 Mary Street is described as a post-industrial concept space, thik you could use that for your wedding? Trafalgar Warehouse has transformed the 2930’s warehouse into a wedding venue. The Hide is another warehouse space in the heart of Sheffield’s Industrial Quarter. 92 Burton Road is centred around a cobbled courtyard and available for your wedding. Northern Monk Brewery is another indutsrial setting in Leeds, the Chapter Hall is available for weddings and just ideal for a Yorkshire Wedding Photographer.
There’s something magical about an outdoor wedding and fortunately more and more venues are now catering for these. The traditioanl marquee is being caught up by tipis and yurts. You’ve a blank canvas so can really stamp your own mark on your big day.
Skipbridge Country Weddings is located between Harrogate and York, there are glamping tents for the adventurous or holiday cottages who like their creature comforts. Wharfedale Grange even has a space especially for the preparations before the ceremony. it’s just outside Leeds and is a stunning wedding venue. Bivouac is a beautiful woodland setting perfect for an outdoor wedding. Jollydays is perfect if you’re looking for soemthing unique and exciting for your wedding, with a real festival vibe. Danby Castle is nestled on the edge of the North York Moors, an historical and unique wedding venue with character and charm.
Smallshaw Farm is a unique setting for a DIY wedding, beautiful rolling hills and luxurious accommodation come as standard. Little Wold Vineyard in the heart of the Yorkshire Wolds, celebrate your wedding in a luxury canvas pole marquee or tipi’s and take in those beautiful surroundings. Wold Top Breweries is a stunning unique wedding space, it allows you to have your wedding your way, giving you the opportunity to choose exactly the day you want.
Hideaway at Baxby Manor can provide you with the perfect venue for your wedding day. Choose a marquee amongst the wildflowers or giant Teepes in the vintage apple Orchard. Also included is exclusive use of the luxury treehouse, Rufus’s Roost.
Camp Katur is set in a 250 acre country estate and in the middle of the woodland, greenland and meadowland you will find an all in one Glamping & Camping village. Natural Retreats is set in 55 acres of countryside in Swaledale. Rurally located but only a short walk from the beautiful market town of Richmond. Newton Grange is set in the rolling drumlin hills on a working sheep farm.
As well as space for tipis you could also tie the knot in the beautiful Grade II listed Georgian farmhouse and gardens. Applewood Weddings have two separate venues to choose from. woodland in Leeds and our barn in holmfirth. Woodland Weddings have the most spectacular and breathtaking locations to host your woodland wedding or celebration. Woodside Weddings Set in an intimate garden, Woodside Farmhouse offers the perfect location for your special wedding reception.
Well if the above hasn’t whetted your appetite, then here are a few choices for something very different for your wedding. Yorkshire Sculpture Park for a truly unique backdrop to your wedding Yorkshire Sculpture Park has it all. Hidden away in 500 acres of historic parkland 20 miles south of Leeds, it’s an original and unforgettable setting for your wedding day. York Maze is set in open countryside close to the city making it a fantastic rural venue, perfect for the less formal wedding or reception.
Left Bank allows you to design your wedding in the Grade II* listed former church. Built in 1908, it makes a beautiful and flexible space for your wedding reception. York Castle Museum allows you and your guests to be surrounded by the magical Kirkgate, a beautiful cobbled street of authentic Victorian shop fronts packed with historic goods. Braime Pressings was used to host public meetings and dance parties during the two World Wars and has stood almost untouched for 50 years.
With its historic features, marble bar and parquet flooring, it offers a completely unique, vintage venue for wedding days. Dine is perfect for that traditional romantic wedding, whether it’s a a simple and elegant day or an informal theme, they will work with you to create your dream day.
Why not share your wedding day with those that mean the most to you. Holdsworth House has won a huge amount of awards for it’s wedding venue and can cater for outdoor weddings. Markenfield Hall is a private home and has its own moat, it provides a wonderfully intimate venue for a wedding. Priest’s House has the 13th century Barden Tower, as its backdrop, this has to be one of the most historic of Yorkshire wedding venues, this unique venue is surrounded by some of the best landscape the Yorkshire Dales can offer.
Life’s a stage, so they say, and this is definitley one of those undet the spotlight moments, so why not go the whole hog and tie the knot on stage!
Abbeydale Picture House has lots of spaces available to hire including The Auditorium, Fly Tower, Reception / Meeting Rooms, a Cafe Space and Foyer and a large area suitable for outdoor events. Harrogate Theatre will allow you to get married in it’s versatile space if you ask nicely.
As you can see from this small selection of venues, the choice is massive. Don’t forget Yorkshire is the UK’s biggest county so there is bound to be a venue out there with your name on it.
