GORTON MONASTERY WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHY – MANCHESTER
What a day this was, it was only spring but the weather was more like high summer. The sun shone and the heat was on for this gorgeous wedding of Megan & Karl at The Monastery in Manchester. If you mention a Manchester wedding in the suburbs then you probably start thinking of somewhere such as Didsbury. But Gorton, just to the east of the city centre has this most amazing building and wedding venue. It has to be seen to be believed, it really is spectacular.
WEDDING AT THE MONASTERY, MANCHESTER
The building itself dates back to the 1860’s and is a former church and Franciscan friary. It was derelict for many years before it rose from the dead with the help of the building preservation trust that still maintains it to this day. The Monastery is now a venue for hire and heritage visitor attraction. All proceeds from the hiring, donations and grants help to keep this building going strong.
When I arrived at The Monastery, Karl and his groomsmen were greeting the guests and having a last minute drink to settle their nerves. Megan and the bridesmaids soon arrived after everybody had been seated, with the groomsmen giving her a huge round of applause. The ceremony was beautiful with readings from guests and special guest star, Karl’s Nanna. After the ceremony, the guests joined the bride and groom in the courtyard gardens. This gave us time to photograph the group shots, the confetti and something I don’t see a lot of these days, the bouquet toss.
WEDDING BREAKFAST IN THE GREAT NAVE
After all the formalities were over, it was time to eat. The Great Nave at The Monastery is turned into the most lavish banqueting hall in the whole of Manchester, just ready for the wedding breakfast. After the guests had enjoyed their food it was time for speeches. Karl really played a blinder with his, straight from the heart and had everybody in stitches one minute and tears the next.
To end the evening, it was another quick turnaround in the Great Nave. The cake cutting was first, followed by the first dance and of course the party and boy could this lot party. I was so grateful to Megan & Karl for choosing me to be their wedding photographer and letting me be a small part of this extraordinary day.
Megan & Karl, I wish you all the luck in the world, this is your story.
