Stockport Plaza Wedding Photography | Lisa & Joe
This was my fourth time shooting Stockport Plaza Wedding Photography. This one for Lisa & Joe’s big day. It gets better every time I go. When you are planning a wedding in an Art Deco theatre, you really have to embrace the 20’s and 30’s theme. That’s exactly what these two did. Lisa looked amazing in her dress, which had been made from scratch by her mum. Other vintage cinema touches were all around. One of Lisa & Joe’s friends was a graphic designer and made the most incredible movie posters featuring our Bride & Groom. Even the cake took on that Art Deco style and that was made by Joe himself.
The other wedding ceremonies I have photographed at The Plaza have taken place on the stage. This one was a little different though. Lisa and Joe decided to tie the knot at the end of the aisle so their family and friends, all seated in the theatre seats, were all able to stay close by.
After the ceremony, a few group shots were taken under the moving LED sign at the entrance to the theatre. For late Autumn, the weather was being very kind to us so Lisa, Joe and myself took a little walk up The Plaza steps and around the back of the theatre. Ted the manager was waiting for us and then took us on a behind the scenes tour. We ended up at the very top of the theatre in the old projection room, where we had a wonderful view of the big screen below. The guests were all enjoying the films being shown as well as munching on the popcorn. The corridors are full of character and there are portraits of all the famous faces who have trodden the boards here over the years. We even ended up in Ken Dodd’s old dressing room for a couple of shots. That’s what makes this one of the most unique Greater Manchester wedding venues.
After these photos it was time to eat. The Plaza Cafe is really beautiful, totally restored back to how it looked in it’s Art Deco heyday. The speeches were hilarious with Joe even having to perform a rap and clapping game with his best man.
Finally it was first dance time and what a first dance it was, on stage, curtains rising and a round of applause from all the family and friends watching from down below.
STOCKPORT PLAZA WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHY
Stockport Plaza is a very unique special 1920s wedding venue, it’s not far from Manchester, just 7 miles out. It has been restored to its former glory by a bunch of extremely talented volunteers. I think it’s the ideal place in Manchester for authentic vintage wedding photography.
