Roman Lakes Wedding Photography | Suzanne & Joe

Roman Lakes Wedding Photographer

What a magnificent day this was for Suzanne & Joe who chose me to be their Roman Lakes wedding photographer.

Relaxed photography at Roman lakes

We began the day at St Peter’s church in Hazel Grove for the ceremony. Suzanne and the girls turned up early in a 1960’s VW camper van, so early in fact that nobody knew they were there in the car park around the back of the church. After the ceremony and the confetti was thrown it was time to drive to Roman Lakes, once you’ve once navigated your way around hundreds of potholes on the long and winding track that is.

It was my first time shooting here, and I hope it won’t be the last. It’s a gorgeous venue with some stunning light inside and hidden away in the Marple countryside. Roman Lakes has a rich history and has been operating as a pleasure park with a dance hall, boating and amusements such as penny slot machines after the destruction of the mill in 1892. By day the Roman Lakes is a tearoom with regular dances and also a wonderful place for walkers, dog owners and fishing. Where it gets interesting though is when it is hired out for events like Suzanne and Joe’s wedding.

Weddings at this quirky venue

As soon as everybody arrived at Roman Lakes, it was time to get the obligatory group shots done. Joe has a thing for viaducts, so we made sure the Marple viaduct was in the backdrop for these shots. After the bride and groom took a little stroll around it was time for the afternoon activities to begin. Table tennis, Jenga, table football and all manner of different games were available for the guests to enjoy.

Food was also on the quirky side and expertly provided by Artisam and his team. After the meals were dished up, the converted horsebox then transformed into an amazing ice cream parlour for the desserts. I can highly recommend the pistachio and cappuccino ice creams on offer.

After the speeches, it was time for the party begin. Live music was on tap for the first dance and the rest of the evening but today was all about Suzanne & Joe, what a privilege this job is.

  • Lisa H - Lovely photos! Looks like they had a great time. I also think that’s the band we’ve hired for our drinks reception! They’re brilliant.ReplyCancel
