Lifestyle photography at Styal in Cheshire – Stephanie & Martin

I love photographing Styal in Cheshire, it’s like stepping back in time to a bygone era. The old cottages, school and church are just as they were in Victorian times and that’s where I met Stephanie & Martin and their little boy. After a walk around the cobbles and taking a few photos along the way, we took the path through the fields which leads to Quarry Bank Mill.

Cheshire family photography

Quarry Bank Mill was the workplace of hundreds of local adults and children, some of whom lived in the village along with the apprentices who lived in the apprentice house. After our walk around here and the parkland at the rear of the mill we set off again on one of the trails which start at the mill. There are a couple of really nice locations which photograph really well by the river which we used.

After turning around and retracing our steps we ended up back at the village again and used the cottages as our backdrop. It’s hard to go wrong here as the whole area is so photogenic, the village is spread over quite a large space so it never gets too busy with visitors. The village is now owned by the National Trust and the cottages have been turned into lovely homes for the lucky tenants. Thankfully though they don’t have to work 13 hours a day in the mill and live with another family to be eligible for a cottage. After finishing off with a few more photos in the narrow lanes it was time to say our goodbyes and for me to get back home and start work editing the photos.
