Oldham Family Lifestyle Photography at Dovestone Reservoir

Julie and her husband Tim had been given one of my gift vouchers for a family lifestyle photography session. They decided to bring their three grandchildren along with them plus their dog. The location Julie had chosen was Dovestone Reservoir. I’d never been here before, so I did a little research about the area online. I thought I had a good idea of what locations to use but nothing could prepare me for how beautiful it was. The views and the landscape were just stunning. It’s situated on the edge of Oldham and the Peak District National Park so it’s easy to get to from Manchester.

We met in the car park and after a few introductions we set off past the main reservoir. As we went along the children were loving the freedom and running around over the parkland and across the streams. We started to climb a little higher and came across some lovely lone trees which made wonderful backdrops for the photos. The kids were not slowing down at all and were having the time of their lives jumping across the stepping stones over another stream.

As we circled back round the sun was out and giving a lovely autumnal glow to the photos. Autumn is probably my favourite time for this type of photo shoot. The sun is low in the sky and not too strong, couple this with the yellow and browns of the trees and it takes some beating.
