I’ve had a few meetings with prospective wedding couples recently where I have been asked about the bridal preparation photographs and if they are worth doing or not, now I’m biased on this one as I earn more money if I cover the bridal preparations and secondly, I absolutely love photographing the wedding details and here’s why.
Now the morning of the wedding is going to stressful enough without having a wedding photographer shuffling around taking photographs of everyone in their dressing gowns right? Well yes, it is stressful but it is also an extremely fun and unique experience. So many things will happen during that morning and it will fly by, some things you’ll remember and some you won’t, but what better way of recalling it all than by documenting it with photographs. I will capture all those little details, the wedding rings, the jewellery, the perfume, the thank you cards, the shoes, the dress, the champagne bottles being opened, Dad seeing his daughter in her wedding dress for the first time.
I don’t want photos of myself just getting out of bed with no make up! It’s not like that at all, I usually arrive about an hour before you are due to leave for the church or wedding ceremony venue. Before I start photographing the hair and make up people in action, you’ll already be made up and I will capture the last finishing touches, the tiara being fitted, mum and the bridesmaids helping to tie the ribbons on the back of the dress etc.
I haven’t got time to start posing for shots, I’ve got a wedding to go to! Nope, no posing here, all the shots of the bridal preparations are documentary style and completely unposed. What happens happens and I’ll be there to capture it. I photographed a wedding at Peckforton Castle, Cheshire recently and Claire the bride said to me that she loved a photo I had taken of her putting her little daughters shoes on in the bedroom, she said she remembered doing it but didn’t realise I had taken the photograph. It is such a tender loving moment and it’s there captured in a photograph forever. So I think the wedding details and bridal preps are well worth considering.
